Mr. S. T. S. Lapcha, Chairman and Director, CIBART, a retired Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), has had an illustrious career in the Indian Forest Service (IFS) since his appointment in 1983. He is fluent in multiple languages including Hindi, English, Bengali, Lepcha, and Nepali, he holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Botany, Zoology, and Chemistry, as well as an M.Sc. in Botany from North Bengal University. Additionally, he earned a Diploma in Forestry from the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun.

Throughout his career, Mr. Lepcha has undertaken extensive research and development projects focusing on bamboo and natural fiber activities, aiming to improve rural livelihoods through sustainable practices. His work includes the introduction of new bamboo species, the development of bamboo preservation techniques using plant-based methods, and the enhancement of processing methods for Himalayan nettle and Hemp fibers.

Mr. Lepcha's expertise in sustainable mountain development is reflected in his initiatives like the three-tier plantation system and the implementation of participatory techniques for forest management. He has successfully managed multiple large-scale projects funded by prestigious organizations such as the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the Government of India, focusing on bamboo resource augmentation and eco-friendly housing.

His contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous memberships in learned societies and his involvement in policy-making groups, notably contributing to the National Fiber Policy. With over 35 professional training programs to his credit and multiple publications in national and international journals, Mr. Lepcha has made significant advancements in forestry and environmental conservation.

Mrs. Kuppuraj Rathna, the COO and Director is a dedicated professional. She is passionate about making a difference in the lives of those which are belonging to low-income group. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role with a solid educational foundation, including a P.G. in Financial Management from Alagappa University and a B.Sc. in Mathematics, Rathna has demonstrated a consistent commitment to the development and management of bamboo resources and technologies in India.

Throughout her extensive career of 26 years, Rathna has held significant positions such as Director at CIBART and Senior Programme Analyst at the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR). Her work focuses on enhancing livelihood opportunities, income, and quality of life for tribal communities through innovative bamboo production and processing projects. Notably, she has led impactful projects like the Bamboo Craft Cluster Programme in Gujarat under SFURTI Scheme of MSME and the Bamboo Resource Development in Northern Floodplains of India.

Rathna's contributions extend beyond project management; she is a founding member of the Bamboo Forum of India and has served on various executive committees related to bamboo and agroforestry. Her numerous publications and research on bamboo resources underscore her expertise and dedication to sustainable development.

With a proven track record in financial and operational management, Mrs. Rathna has successfully navigated complex projects, secured funding, and fostered collaborations with key stakeholders. Her leadership has been instrumental in transforming traditional bamboo crafts into market-driven products, thereby uplifting the socio-economic status of artisans and communities involved in bamboo enterprises.

She manages CIBART operations and administration, ensure its growth and positive performance and enhance its relations with government, non-government, public, private and partner institutions. She provides executive advice and support in the areas of financial management, reporting, personnel management, coordination and liaison, organizing missions, workshops, proposal writing and business plan development and execution.  

Dr. S. D. Singh, Director, CIBART, an accomplished Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, Retd. A.P.C.C.F., Uttarakhand. With a career spanning over three decades, Dr. Singh has held key positions such as Chief Executive Officer of the Delhi Parks and Garden Society (DPGS) and Conservator of Forests cum Regional Manager for the Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation. His extensive experience includes advisory roles to state and national governments on environmental issues, managing biodiversity and forest clearances, and leading significant greening and beautification projects, notably for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Dr. Singh's academic credentials are equally impressive, holding a Ph.D. in Agriculture from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Delhi and professional training from the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun. He has been recognized with several awards for his contributions to forest management and urban greenery. Additionally, Dr. Singh has actively contributed to research and development in forestry, watershed management, and medicinal plants, and has served as an examiner and guide for numerous research scholars.

Dr. Singh's leadership and coordination skills have been pivotal in initiatives like the Gujjar tribe rehabilitation, urban forestry, and biofuel development programs. His commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development is reflected in his diverse roles and the successful implementation of numerous state and national projects. 

We are proud to say Mr. Sanjeev Karpe, Director CIBART, is also partner and member with a variety of National and International Bamboo organizations, Like KONBAC, Native KONBAC, KNM, NBM, INBAR to provide the best possible support and guidance to our stakeholders. Mr. Karpe is an Electrical Engineer, and having expertise in strategic and operational planning, bamboo structure design, fabrication and erection, bamboo furniture making and high end crafts production.  He has over 24 years hands on experience in bamboo sector and provides executive advice on furniture making, marketing and designing support to the Company. He has excellent knowledge on Bamboo plantation and management, Business strategy, Furniture production, Interior architect, Product design & development, Training of local manpower, Selection and commissioning of plant & machinery, Technology transfer and Quality control our partners help us extend our reach and impact in the community.

Dr. Sanjay V. Deshmukh is a distinguished Professor of Life Sciences at the University of Mumbai, a position he has held since 2005. With a storied career that includes serving as the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mumbai, Dr. Deshmukh is renowned for his contributions to higher education and environmental science. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Botany, multiple honorary Doctor of Science degrees, and a Bachelor of Laws degree, all from prestigious institutions.

Dr. Deshmukh's extensive research on mangrove ecosystems has positioned him as a global authority on conservation. His leadership extends to various high-level committees and advisory roles for both the Indian government and international bodies. Notably, he has spearheaded significant reforms and initiatives in higher education, focusing on transparency, employability, and academic excellence.

A prolific scholar, Dr. Deshmukh has over 200 research publications to his name and has successfully guided numerous Ph.D. students in India and Ohio State University also. His commitment to integrating science and technology for sustainable development has earned him several accolades, including civilian honors and fellowships in prestigious scientific academies.
